What is PromptCue?
PromptCue is your all-in-one AI chat interface that lets you interact with multiple advanced AI models—like GPT-4, Gemini, Claude, and more—from a single, intuitive platform. No sign-up is required; simply enter your API key and start chatting.
How does PromptCue work?
PromptCue aggregates various AI models into one interface. You provide an API key for your chosen model, and our platform securely processes and routes your prompts through our internal API, which communicates with the external AI endpoints.
Is PromptCue free to use?
Yes, PromptCue is free to use. You only need to supply your own API key for the AI model you wish to use. There are no hidden fees or mandatory subscriptions.
Which AI models are supported by PromptCue?
PromptCue supports a variety of advanced AI models from OpenAI, Google, etc. You can find the entire list of all the AI Models we support here.

Do I need an API subscription to use AI models on PromptCue?
Yes. To use a specific AI model on PromptCue, you must have an active API subscription with the corresponding provider. For example, to use Claude models, you need an Anthropic API subscription. Similarly, if you wish to use other models like GPT-4 or Gemini, you should subscribe to the respective API plans offered by those providers.
Do I need to provide my own API key?
Yes. For security and privacy, you must provide your own API key. This key is stored locally in your browser, ensuring that your sensitive information remains private.

How do I set up PromptCue?
Setting up PromptCue is easy:
- Visit sanbox.promptcue.com.
- Select the AI model you want to use.
- Enter your API key.
- Start interacting with the AI.
How is my API key handled and stored?
Your API key is stored locally in your browser’s localStorage. This ensures that your key remains private and is never transmitted to external servers.
Can I use PromptCue on multiple devices?
Yes. Since your API key is stored locally, you can configure PromptCue on each device by entering your API key.
Can I recover cleared chat history?
Since PromptCue stores your chat history locally in your browser using localStorage, if you clear your browser data or delete your local storage, your chat history cannot be recovered. We recommend exporting or backing up important conversations manually.

Is my data secure with PromptCue?
Absolutely. We prioritize your data security by:
- Storing all sensitive information locally in your browser.
- Enforcing strict Content Security Policies (CSP) to prevent malicious code injections.
- Conducting regular security audits to adhere to industry best practices.
Who has access to my API key and chat data?
Only you have access. Since your API key and chat data are stored locally, they remain private to your device and are not stored to our servers.
Who can see my prompts and AI response?
Your prompts/AI response are sent directly from your browser to the AI Model via API without saving/storing them on our servers. This means that only you and the selected AI Model have access to your prompt and the AI response, ensuring your privacy remains fully protected.
🤖 Usage & AI Chat Models
Are there any usage limits on the free version?
Usage limits, if any, are determined by the API provider of the AI model you use (e.g., OpenAI, Gemini). PromptCue itself does not impose additional usage restrictions.
How do I switch between different AI models?
Simply choose a different model from the PromptCue interface. The change takes effect immediately, allowing you to adapt your interaction based on your needs.
I have a ChatGPT subscription. If I opt for the OpenAI API and use PromptCue, would it cost me less?
Yes. When using the API through PromptCue, the cost per conversation is typically much lower than a ChatGPT subscription. For example, a typical chat conversation is about 1000 characters (roughly equivalent to 250 tokens) and might cost around ~$0.002 per conversation—less than a cent. This means you could have thousands of chats per month for just a few dollars, making it a much more cost-effective option compared to the flat monthly fee of a ChatGPT subscription.
What should I do if an AI model isn’t responding as expected?
If you encounter issues:
- Verify that your API key is correct and active.
- Check the PromptCue interface for any error messages or notifications.
- Visit our Troubleshooting or Support page for further assistance.
Can I modify the AI model settings (e.g., temperature, topP, etc.)?
Yes, PromptCue lets you customize several key parameters to influence how the AI generates its responses. You can adjust settings such as:
- Temperature: Control the creativity of the AI’s responses. A higher temperature results in more varied outputs, while a lower value yields more consistent responses.
- Maximum Length: Set the cap on the length of the AI-generated responses.
- Top P (Nucleus Sampling): Fine-tune the diversity of the output by adjusting the probability distribution.
- Frequency Penalty: Reduce the chance of repeated phrases to encourage varied responses.
- Presence Penalty: Adjust how much the model avoids repeating concepts.
- Custom Instructions: Use a dedicated text area to add or modify custom instructions.
Please note that not all AI models support every parameter. When a parameter isn’t available, you’ll see a note indicating that the model doesn't support it.
🎨 Customization & Features
Can I change the app theme?
Yes! PromptCue lets you customize your viewing experience by switching between Light and Dark themes. By default, the app automatically adapts to your system's theme, but you can easily override this setting in the app preferences. How do dynamic prompts variables work?
PromptCue allows you to include variable-driven content using our __$ syntax. This makes your queries more interactive and adaptable. You can read more on this feature here.
Can I have a chat which is temporary (not saved in my localStorage)?
Yes! PromptCue includes a Temporary Chat feature that lets you start a session without saving your conversation history. This is perfect for quick, one-off queries or for users who prefer not to have their chats stored. Can I save my prompt to use in the future?
Absolutely! With PromptCue, you can easily save your favorite prompts using our Prompt Library. Not only can you store your custom prompts, but you can also explore over 40 built-in prompts designed for various use cases. Is there a dedicated mobile app for PromptCue (Android/iOS)?
No, we do not currently offer native mobile apps. However, you can easily add PromptCue to your home screen on your mobile device using "Add to Home Screen" option on your browser. This provides a full-screen, app-like experience with quick access and a seamless interface—just as convenient as a native application.
Does PromptCue support voice-activated interaction?
