Attaching Files

Enhance your conversations with rich context—attach PDFs, spreadsheets, documents, and more directly into any PromptCue chat. Your files become part of the prompt context, so the AI can read, understand, and respond based on their contents.

Why Attach Files?

  • Provide instant context: Share reports, logs, or datasets without copying and pasting.
  • Speed up workflows: Let us parse large documents automatically.
  • Maintain accuracy: Ensure the AI references exact file contents.

Prerequisites

  • A PromptCue account with an Attach Files feature enabled.
  • Files up to 20 MB in size.
  • Supported formats (see below).

How to Attach Files

You have two simple ways to add a file:

  1. Drag & Drop
Drag your file from your desktop into the chat input area—PromptCue will automatically detect and attach it.

  2. Attachment Button
Click the 📎 Attach icon next to the chat textbox, choose your file in the system dialog, and hit Open.

File Preview

Once attached, your file appears in the chat preview. You can remove it at any time before sending.

Supported File Types & Size Limits

PromptCue accepts the following formats, up to 20 MB per file:

  • PDF (.pdf)
  • CSV (.csv)
  • Excel (.xls, .xlsx)
  • Word (.docx)
  • HTML (.html)
  • Plain Text (.txt)
File Types

Attempting to upload an unsupported format or a file larger than 20 MB will display an error message.

File Preview & Context Injection

After you attach a file, you’ll see a preview bar above the chat:

  • Icon matching the file type (PDF, XLSX, DOCX, etc.).
  • File Name (truncated if too long).
  • File Type label (e.g. “PDF Document”).
  • Remove (✖️) button to discard the attachment.

When you send your message, PromptCue processes the file (extracting text or embeddings) and injects its contents into the AI prompt context—so the response incorporates your document automatically.

Q: What if the file is too large?
